Why QC Photos Matter More Than Seller Photos

Seller photos on Weidian and Taobao are carefully staged, often edited, and sometimes show a different batch than what you will receive. QC photos, taken by your Shopping Agent at the warehouse, show the exact item that arrived. This is your only opportunity to verify quality before the item leaves China.

The QC process exists because factories produce in batches. Batch A might be excellent while Batch B has minor flaws. Seller photos could be from Batch A while your item comes from Batch B. QC photos reveal this discrepancy immediately.

The Standard QC Photo Set

Reading QC Like a Pro

Start with the overall shape and proportions. Does the silhouette match the retail reference? For shoes, check toe box height and heel tab placement. For bags, check handle drop length and corner shape. These macro-level checks catch the most obvious batch flaws.

Next, zoom in on materials. Leather should show natural grain variation. Synthetic materials should look uniform, not plasticky. Mesh should have consistent hole patterns. Finally, inspect stitching and construction. Stitch lines should be straight and even. Thread color should match the material. Seams should be reinforced at stress points. Loose threads, skipped stitches, or crooked lines are red flags that warrant exchange.

Clothing: off-center prints or embroidery, collar ribbing that is too thin or too thick, side seams that twist after washing (indicated by pre-wash QC), and tags with incorrect spelling or font. Hoodies should also be checked for pocket alignment and drawstring quality.

Accessories: hardware engraving depth and clarity, zipper smoothness, stitching around stress points, and logo placement accuracy. Wallets and cardholders should be checked for card slot alignment and edge paint consistency.

When to GL (Green Light) vs RL (Red Light)

GL means "Green Light" or approve for shipping. RL means "Red Light" or request exchange. The decision depends on your personal standards and the item price. A minor flaw on a $12 t-shirt might be acceptable while the same flaw on a $120 bag requires RL.

General GL rules: cosmetic flaws on interior tags, minor thread trimming needed, slight color variation under different lighting, and packaging creases that will smooth out. These do not affect wearability or appearance.

General RL rules: misaligned logos, wrong colorways, visible stains or damage, incorrect sizing, hardware that does not function, and materials that feel clearly wrong. These flaws will bother you every time you use the item.
